Today, Browns Plantations has grown to be recognised as one of the largest plantation companies in Sri Lanka. Udupussellawa Plantations owns 11 thriving estates and 19 estates come under Hapugastenne Plantations. Moreover, Maturata Plantations comprises of 19 tea estates.
With the acquisition of Udupussellawa Plantations PLC and Hapugastenne Plantations PLC from Finlays, today, Browns Plantations has evolved into one of Sri Lanka’s most recognized and largest plantation companies. In a strategic move to expand its boundaries, the Browns Group, changed the brand identities of Maturata Plantations Limited, Udupussellawa Plantations PLC and Hapugastenne Plantations PLC under Browns Plantations in keeping with the Group’s pioneering spirit which has and continues to innovate, adapt and transform.
Gal Oya Plantations was founded in the year 2007 as the result of a joint venture between the Government of Sri Lanka and the consortium of private sector investors, comprising of Brown & Company PLC, as well as Lanka ORIX Leasing Company PLC. The objective of this merger was to revitalise the former Hingurana Sugar plant which was closed down for over 15 years. The current production of Gal Oya Plantations is an estimated 2000 tons of sugar, 21,500 litres of ENA and bio fertilizer daily. Additionally, the plantation generates about 2MW electricity for the usage of the factory.
