Since it was established in 1970, as a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd., Hitachi Construction Machinery (HCM) has been the third largest construction machinery manufacturer in the world, based in Japan. Over the past few decades, HCM has developed a full line of industry-leading construction equipment, which includes excavators (one to 800 tons), wheel loaders, dump trucks, crawler cranes and light compaction equipment. Hitachi maintains a single-minded focus on building excavators and is therefore not sidetracked by attempting to make all kinds of construction equipment. The decision of Hitachi to move its Sri Lankan franchise to Browns has proven to be right. The very same capabilities of Browns, which led many other international brands to succeed in the Sri Lankan market, elevated the performance of Hitachi too.
